Why Not Try One of Our
Willow Workshops

The Goodwin family has been farming at Ashmans Farm since the early 1900s; the farm comprises some 165 acres (66 ha.) which lie in the 'Blackwater Valley' between Colchester and Chelmsford, Essex. To supply local hobby interests, small plots of basketry willow were established in the late 1970s and in 1987 Robert Goodwin set up plots of the new, fast growing willows which had been on trial for renewable energy production at Long Ashton Research Station; it soon became obvious that these willows were also highly suitable for amenity work such as garden structures. A wide range of varieties are now grown at Ashmans Farm for biomass, cricket bats, basketry, bio-engineering, foliage and amenity planting etc. - we also supply various industries worldwide.

For the willow enthusiast, a variety of willow kits and ready assembled structures can be purchased from the farm. We also hold regular living and non-living willow workshops - allowing students to get a feel for the material and to learn the basic techniques of willow work, as well as picking up tips from experienced tutors. With the variety of projects on offer, participants can choose a project as simple or as challenging as they wish; help and guidance will be given and step-by-step tuition is available for beginners.
